Statues

There are a number of statues in our Church; they help us to think about the person we are praying to.

Sacred Heart

This statue is called 'The Sacred Heart' and it shows Jesus pointing to his heart, which reminds us of God's unending love for everyone.

Madonna and Child

Madonna is Italian for 'My Lady' and this statue shows Mary holding the Child Jesus. We hold Mary in special honour as she is the Mother of God.

Saint Joseph

Saint Joseph was Mary's husband who loved and cared for Jesus during his youth. He is wearing purple because he was a member of the Royal Family of David. He is the Patron Saint of the Dying and on his altar is a record of those buried in our crypt.

Saint Anthony

Saint Anthony is one of the most popular Saints and his statue will be found in nearly every Catholic Church. This is because he loved and helped the poor so much and spread the word of God in a gentle way. Usually lilies are seen near his statue because they represent innocence.

Saint Francis

Saint Francis is in our Church because he is the Patron Saint of Animals and as you may already know our area has a long history with the keeping and selling of animals.

Saint Benedict Joseph Labre

Saint Benedict Joseph Labre is in our Church because he is the Patron Saint of the unemployed. He is commonly known as the 'Ragged Saint'.

SAINT THÉRÈSE OF LISIEUX

SAINT THÉRÈSE OF LISIEUX IS IN OUR CHURCH BECAUSE SHE WAS CANONISED AT A TIME WHEN A LOT OF WORK WAS DONE TO THE CHURCH AT THE BEGINNING OF THE 1900'S.

Saint Philomena

Saint Philomena is in our Church to remind us of those people who died for their faith, they are called 'Martyrs'.
